About Snow Skiing at Boone, NC:

​

Boone is a small mountain city, located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. Named after the famous US pioneer and explorer, Daniel Boone, the city is the home of Appalachian State University.  Because of its high elevation, Boone experiences cold temperatures during the winter, with sleet and snow occurring often.  We will be snow skiing at Appalachian Ski Mountain in nearby Blowing Rock, NC. (www.appskimtn.com), a ski resort that includes 10 slopes, an outdoor ice arena for ice skating, a ski shop, and a restaurant.

Planning Your Budget:


The $60 Registration Fee Includes:

 

  • 2 nights stay in an American home with 

  • Transportation to Boone, NC from Columbia, SC (and return)

  • Meals on Saturday and Sunday morning, plus Sunday Lunch

Additional Cost: 

  • 2-3 meals: Dinner on Friday night and Lunch on Saturday at  Ski Resort

  • Ski Lift Ticket: $64/person

  • Ski Rental: $32 (or Snowboard Rental: $39) (9:00am-5:00pm rental price)

  • Optional extras:

    • Ice skating: $16

    • Group lessons: $20 (Recommended for Beginners)

    • Clothing rental for skiing (set by ski lodge and subject to change)

      • jacket - $10

      • ski bib (covers pants) - $9

      • gloves - $7

      • goggles - $7

      • complete set - $22

      • (helmets available for an additional $3, or separately for $6)

Arrival:

 

There are no plane, or train connections to BOONE. If you are coming by train or air, plan to arrive in Columbia, South Carolina by NOON on the day of departure. IFM will provide transportation from Columbia at 1:00 p.m. IMPORTANT: If you arrive after noon, you will have no way to get to Boone!  No exceptions can be made!

Plan your return departure from Columbia, SC after 6:30 p.m on Sunday.

 

Schedule:

Friday, February 7

  • 1:00 PM - Depart from Columbia

  • 6:00 PM - Arrive in Boone and buy meal at restaurant

  • 7:15 PM - Host families arrive at host church and take students home

​

Sat., February 8 - Breakfast with host family

  • 8:00 AM - Meet at host church... for a whole day of snow skiing!

  • 9:00 AM - Arrive at Appalachian ski resort and purchase lift ticket, etc.

  • 12:00 PM - Purchase your lunch at resort restaurant ($8 - $10)

  • 4:45 PM - Skiing ends

  • 5:45 PM - Meet host families at host church. Have supper with host family and spend the evening with them.

Sun., February 9 - Breakfast with host family

  • 9:45 AM - Observe Worship Service at host church with host family

  • 11:15 AM - Lunch at church with host families

  • 12:30 PM - Depart for home
